* It is being reported that the new Cleveland Browns Director of Football Operations (Team Czar) Mike Holmgren has decided to keep Eric Mangini as the head coach for the 2010 Cleveland Browns.

* Cleveland Browns (WR/KR)Joshua Cribbs will now formally request a trade from the team after they only offered him a slap-in-face offer of $1.4 Million a year as a “reward” for basically being the best all around player on their team. He is insulted, as he very well should be after breaking the NFL record this season for 8 kickoff returns for touchdowns. Not too mentioned he racked up 516 combined yards receiving and rushing on a offense that was flat out terrible. He also added 1 rushing TD, and 1 receiving TD. That’s fine though….just trade him so he can help a football team that could really utilize his talents, and pay him respectably for them. Two teams with reported interest are the Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers.

*It seems as though the relationship between the Broncos and (WR)Brandon Marshall has finally ran its course. I have a feeling that he will be playing for a new team in 2010.

* Something to keep an eye out for, is if the Jets decide to extend (WR)Braylon Edwards, whom they acquired from the Browns in 2009. If no collective bargaining agreement is reached, instead of becoming a unrestricted free agent, he would become a restricted free agent, meaning the Jets would have the right to match any offer another team(s) would put in for him.

* Rams (QB)Marc Bulger is considering retirement.

* Former Bills Head Coach Perry Fewell, has interviews lined up with the Chicago Bears, and New York Giants for the position of defensive coordinator.

* The Buffalo Bills head coaching vacany has brought up the names of Brian Billick, Bill Cowher, Brian Schottenheimer, Marty Schottenheimer, and others. First they will be interviewing with the Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier.

* Now that Mike Shanahan is the new Redskins head coach, will we see him try to pull the trigger on a trade for his former Wide Receiver in Denver, Brandon Marshall? Just a thought!

* Reportedly Mike Shanahan isn’t too high on his (RB)Clinton Portis. He needs to see him have a big offseason, in terms of conditioning and team activities to remain a member of the Redskins. If not, then a trade or release, I imagine would be likely.

* There are some reports that the Titans are going to purge many familiar faces on their roster before the 2010 season.

* It is rumored that Arizona Cardinals back-up (QB)Matt Leinart will be replaced this offseason, and the Cardinals will look to find a new “franchise” QB.

* Last week, Baltimore Ravens back-up (QB)Troy Smith requested he be traded in the offseason because he wants to be a starter in the NFL. He said he will do his job to try to help the Ravens get back to the Super Bowl in any way he can, but unless (QB)Joe Flacco gets injured, their isn’t much Troy Smith will be able to do. He may draw interest around the league though, and with (QB)John Beck already on the roster, it seems very possible the Ravens could get something in return for (QB)Troy Smith. He is an intriguing option.

* Cleveland Browns new team president / director of football operations may look to trade for a familiar friend this offseason, in Seattle Seahawks (QB)Matt Hasselbeck.

* Former Saints and Rams head coach Jim Haslett may end up on the Washington Redskins staff.

* Former Browns head coach Romeo Crennel reportedly has interest in the New York Giants and Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator positions.

* The front runners for the Chicago Bears offensive coordinator position are Mike Martz, Perry Fewell, and Jeremy Bates.

* Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan reportedly would like to keep around (QB)Jason Campbell for the 2010 season.

I was quite behind today in getting to work on the blog. I had work in the morning, then a doctor appointment, then needed to get some rest from this awesome flu I’ve got. Anyways, I’ve spend some time catching up on all of the days rumors, so let me get them for you.

RAIDERS – (CB)NNAMDI ASOMUGHA
I want to start with Raiders (CB)Nnamdi Asomugha because there have been conflicting reports on his availability before the deadline approaches tomorrow @ 4:00EST. I personally don’t think the Raiders move him, but the 2 teams that keep coming up in trade talks for the star defensive back are the Lions, and Ravens. Makes sense because both are struggling to the point of embarrassment. I don’t see the Lions making a move for him as they are still in re-building mode and draft picks are quite precious to them. The Ravens, now they could swing something together for Asomugha. I still can’t believe that with a secondary that includes (CB)Domonique Foxworth, (CB)Fabian Washington, (CB)Chris Carr, (CB)Frank Walker, and possible rookie gem (CB)Lardarius Webb, that you are in desperate need of a corner back. These players all have so much talent, but are just not using it. What a shame too…what someone needs to do is gets under their asses, and light a fire under there, and keep it held there until they play to their full potential.

CHIEFS – (WR)DWAYNE BOWE
Bowe’s performance yesterday (109yds / 6rec) was supposedly based on the verbal shellacking Chiefs Head Coach Todd Haley gave Bowe during a weak first quarter performance. Haley reportedly told Bowe that if he didn’t produce, then he would be traded. I’m sure Bowe wanted to produce anyways, so it looks good to potential teams that may want to acquire him. Reportedly, as I mentioned on a previous post, the Ravens are interested in the services of Dwayne Bowe. Another team that has reportedly inquired about his availability is the Miami Dolphins.

RAVENS – (LB)ANTWAN BARNES
Supposedly the Ravens have had Barnes on the “trading block” since training camp. I’ve read that the Eagles may be interested in his services, especially with the injury to (LB)Omar Gaither.

CHIEFS – (DT)GLENN DORSEY
The new Chiefs regime apparently hasn’t been “sold” on Glenn Dorsey, and haven’t been since their new regime was in place. With the Chiefs supposedly in “Fire-Sale” mode, Glenn Dorsey would be a guy a lot of teams would be interested in. As of right now, I’m hearing the Lions are very interested in Dorsey and it wouldn’t be surprising if Lions pulled it off before the deadline.

PATRIOTS – (WR)JOEY GALLOWAY
Joey Galloway has been a healthy inactive for 2 straight weeks and the Patriots seem to be looking to trade him. Reportedly the Ravens have inquired about Joey Galloway, because they are actively looking for a wide receiver. But Galloway might be a last option if they fail to get a deal done for Bowe, and another receiver who’s nickname rhymes with Bowe………

BILLS – (WR)TERRELL OWENS
The Ravens made a call to the Bills to see if they could work something out for T.O. Reportedly Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome has dialog with a number of teams concerning a number of different players. No other teams have been reported to have contacted the Bills about Owens.

CHARGERS – (LB)SHAWNE MERRIMAN
I know a lot of teams would be interested in Merriman. I’ve heard the Patriots are really interested in Merriman, and they definitely have a plethora of future picks, so I’m sure parting with one or two of them wouldn’t hurt, especially when you are acquiring Shawne Merriman.

BROWNS – (WR/KR)JOSHUA CRIBBS
The Browns organization, as well as head coach Eric Mangini have stated that they will not be trading Joshua Cribbs. Six teams supposedly made a call to see about his availability including the Colts, Dolphins, Jaguars, 49ers, Chiefs, and Raiders. I guess it will depend on if one of the these teams makes Cleveland an offer they cannot refuse.

HERE ARE A FEW NOTES ON SOME RUMORS PERTAINING TO THE TRADE DEADLINE :

– The Eagles are reportedly still dangling (WR)Kevin Curtis as trade bait.
– The Colts supposedly inquired about the availability of Buccaneers (LB)Barrett Ruud, and Bills (WR)Roscoe Parrish
– The Lions may be interested in Chiefs (LB)Derrick Johnson, and reportedly he could be had for a mid-round pick.
– The Browns could be looking to shop (LB)Kamerion Wimbley, (DL)Corey Williams, and possibly (DT)Shaun Rogers.
– The Jaguars reportedly are looking to shop (DE)Quentin Groves at a low price.
– The Rams may be looking to trade (TE)Randy McMichael, due to the emergence of (TE)Daniel Fells
– The Chargers may be willing to trade (WR)Chris Chambers, but shouldn’t expect to get back much for him.
– Either the Browns don’t want to trade (QB)Brady Quinn or they can’t find any takers.
– Packers (LB)Desmond Bishop, who’s buried on the depth chart, said he would be open to the team trading him before the deadline.

***I will be updated this post throughout the evening as I compile more information.

– Texans (QB)Matt Schaub passes to (TE)Owen Daniels for a TD
– Panthers (RB)DeAngelo Williams rushes for a TD

– Texans (QB)Matt Schaub passes to (RB)Steve Slaton for a TD
– Saints (QB)Drew Brees passes to (WR)Lance Moore for a TD
– Giants (RB)Ahmad Bradshaw rushes for a TD
– Browns(D/ST) Browns (KR)Joshua Cribbs returns kickoff for 98 Yard TD
– Giants (QB)Eli Manning passes to (WR)Mario Manningham for a TD
– Steelers (QB)Ben Roethlisberger passes to (WR)Hines Ward for a TD
– Bengals (QB)Carson Palmer passes to (WR)Laveranues Coles for a TD

The Cleveland Browns and Joshua Cribbs have come to a crossroads in contract extension talks. Cribbs was looking to get an extension somewhere in the realm of Devin Hester’s extension, which is pretty damn fair to say the least. The Browns are a dismal franchise and they need to start re-building on their “re-build” all over again. Reportedly the Dolphins, Colts, Chiefs, Raiders, Jaguars, and 49ers have all called Cleveland in regards to a trade for the promising Joshua Cribbs. Well Cleveland, now is the time to trade him. Yes, he would be a great piece to your second re-building stage in as many years, but you need to start piling on those draft picks, and with 6 teams inquiring so far about Cribbs, you should be able to get in a nice bidding war for his services. Cribbs is a very talented kick returner, put still needs to prove his worth as a wide receiver. I don’t blame him for not producing much yet because look who he’s got throwing to him. Joshua Cribbs is a multi-talented player who could benefit so much from going to a team like the Colts, or the Dolphins. The Dolphins were the first reported team interested in his services, and if they were able to lure Cribbs away from Cleveland, just think of the possibilities he could bring to the Wildcat. Miami is probably salivating at the thought.

The Browns seem to not be budging, and reports that have come out today suggest that Cleveland is not interested in trading Cribbs. Lets see what he has done for Cleveland since he entered the league in 2005.

RECEIVING : 192yds / 25rec / 7.7 avg yds (per reception) / 1TD
You have to note that he was very rarely used as a receiver.

RUSHING : 295yds / 46att / 6.4 avg yds (per carry) / 1 TD
Once again you have to note that he was rarely used in this role as well.

KICK RETURNS : 6,029yds / 229 returns / 26.3 avg yds (per return) / 5 touchdowns (2 of which were 100 yard TD’s)
PUNT RETURNS : 949yds / 81 returns / 11.7 avg yds (per return) / 2 touchdowns

So he is a very skilled kick and punt returner, that could potentially turn into a great wide receiver. That all will depend on if he gets traded out of Cleveland this weekend. Cribbs agent has been reportedly saying the Cleveland is being “very unfair” in it’s stance not to trade Cribbs, but if the right offer comes along, I just don’t see how they could pass it up.
